West forced to apologise after West calls Belgium and the Danes second rate

The Labour Party has been forced to apologise to Denmark and Belgium after its defence advisor and former First Sea Lord, Lord West described them as second-tier powers.

Lord West, who is working with the party on new plans for future spending on military hardware said that Britain was a permanent member of the Security Council

and I think that gives us certain clout and certain ability. These mean we are not a second-tier power. We are not bloody Denmark or Belgium, and if we try to become that, I think we would be worse-off as a result..

Jim Murphy, the shadow defence secretary was forced to say sorry for the gaffe.

It is not the first time, the former goat has upset the party. In 2009,then in charge of counter terrorism under Gordon Brown, he placed a bet on Labour losing the next election and also said in an interview, he was not "totally convinced" by elements of the Government's proposed counter-terrorism strategy.

Amongst his other discretions were allegations that he was having an affair with Frida, the brunette singer in Abba.
