Twittered out

So Twitter has gained its first election scalp on Day 4 of the contest.

Labour candidate for Moray Stuart MacLennan has been sacked by the party after a series of obscene tweets.

He was originally backed by Scotland secretary Jim Murphy, but in an about-turn the party said it would have to sack him after the "totally unacceptable" language used.

Opponents stumbling upon his Twitter page found a goldmine of offensive and politically incorrect comments and just plain swearing.

It left an embarrassed Gordon Brown heading for Scotland with little alternative but to fire him
