Europe gets its revenge on time

Britain may be threatening to leave the European commission for human rights but it seems that Europe might be getting its revenge.

According to this morning's Sunday Times, new proposals to change the way day-length is calculated based on atomic clocks could mean the demise of GMT and Britain’s role as timekeeper to the world.

Under the proposals, the move would relegate Britain’s role in global time-setting to a footnote in history.

The International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), based near Paris, would, in effect, be in charge.
