Remembering Blair Peach

There is a really good post by Bob Piper amidst all the comment on the Ian Tomlinson case that reminds us of another incident 30 years ago before we lived in an age of video and the net

It is 30 years this month since teacher Blair Peach died on an Anti-Nazi League demonstration in Southall. Despite eye-witness statements saying they saw Peach clubbed by police officers, an inquest in 1980 declared his death to be one of 'misadventure'. An internal police investigation was never made public, although parts of it were leaked to members of his family naming officers involved in the incident. Ten years after Blair's death, when all the fuss had died down, the Police reached an out-of-court settlement with Blair Peach's family.

This time it is important that those responsible for Ian Tomlinson's death are brought to justice
