The up being his considered performance at Prime Minister's questions, the down being the defeat in the debate brought by the Liberal Democrats on the Gurkha issue and the comedy was his attempt to leave the House after being called to give a statement by the Speaker.
Meanwhile if this piece from Sky's Jon Craig is anything to go by there is trouble brewing on the Labour benches
On my way to the Commons chamber for PMQs, I bumped into a Labour MP who was in a filthy mood.
"He's got to go!" I was told, steam coming out of nostrils.
Now it was obvious who "he" was, after the mutinous mood in the Parliamentary Labour Party over the past week.
It was the next thing my informant said that grabbed my attention.
"We've got to have a strategy in place for the day after the local government elections," said my MP, a minister under Tony Blair and admittedly not one of Gordon Brown's biggest fans.
"He can't see that he's the problem," the MP went on. "He's going to destroy all our achievements."
