Immigration-Let's not just look at the bad bits

Not suprisingly the report of Lord Wakeham which casts doubt on Labour's immigration policies dominates the news this morning.The usual suspects headline it on their front pages,report exposes Labour's lies on the 'benefits' of mass immigration says the Mail,we must cap immigration says the Express.

The Telegraph describes the report as

a watershed. Astonishingly, it is the first detailed economic assessment to have been attempted by Parliament during a decade of mass immigration on a scale unmatched in our history

.

But cutting thru the headlines what did it actually say.Well you can read it all HERE if you so wish

But here are some of its recommendations and ones that ae not getting the media coverage

1. Government policy can help immigrants raise their productivity and outcomes in the British labour market. In particular, given that language proficiency can be a key factor to economic success in the British labour market, the Government should consider whether further steps are needed to help give immigrants who come and take up employment in the UK access to English language training
2. Immigration creates significant benefits for immigrants and their families, and, in some cases, also for immigrants' countries of origin.
3. The overall conclusion from existing evidence is that immigration has very small impacts on GDP per capita, whether these impacts are positive or negative
4. Effective means must be found for enforcing the law against employers who illegally employ immigrants or who employ immigrants at wages and employment conditions that do not meet minimum standards
5. In the short term, immigration creates winners and losers in economic terms..... Consumers may also benefit from immigration through lower prices. Taxpayers are likely to benefit from lower costs of public services.

Yes there are many critisisms of the policy contained within the report but let's not dismiss the overall benefits of immigration and for that matter emigration

The Immigration Minister Liam Bryne swatted the accusations and proposals away on the Today programme this morning. But this report is the third in recent weeks to lambast the Government's overall approach to immigration Perhaps it's time for a rethink.

The White Working class

The BBC launched its white Britain series of programmes last night with a newsnight devoted to the subject.

A survey by the beeb has concluded that the white working classes feel extremely unrepresented and are pessimistic about what is happening to the country.

Bob Piper says this is not surprising as

Even amongst Labour MPs representation from amongst those who have ever held down a job that could be defined as working class (and I don't mean a Christmas job at the post office whilst plodding your way through Oxford) are an endangered species. These days your typical front bench spokesperson or prospective parliamentary candidate will have gone to University, been employed as a researcher for a political party, worked for an MP or a think tank, and been shoed-in to a safe seat somewhere as an MP.

The debate that followed the report centred on the problems of immigration and the feeling that the white woprking classes feel second best to the immigrant popultaion, a fact that has been exemplified in recent years die to the influx from Eastern Europe.

What was concerning about the ensuing debate was that it quickly turned into the English working class verses the rest.More Margaret Hodge was caught in the crossfire as Labour was blamed for brushing this under the carpet as a sop to political correctness.

Fair play to Newsnight for at least getting these views aired and invited Nick Griffin on the programme.

But what the discussion missed was not the racial issue in itself but the fact that outr attention is diverted by the immigration issue where it should be on the white C2,D's and E's.

There is a white underclass that has for all intent dropped out of main stream society.They live in confined areas and survive on the benefit culture.Perhaps the BBC survey has identified part of the problem.Instead of worrying about immigration,let's worry about those already here and how they can get back into mainstream society
