UN launches initiative to diffuse population time bomb

The world's population is set to hit seven million by the end of this month, surge past 9 billion before 2050 and then reach 10.1 billion by the end of the century if current fertility rates continue at expected levels.

In the face of these alarming figures, the United Nations has launched a global initiative, named 7 Billion Actions, - bringing together governments, businesses, the media and individuals to confront the challenges and seize the opportunities offered by the milestone.

Using an interactive website, social networks and mobile phone projects, the project encourages people and organizations around the world to submit ideas and commit to actions for creating a fairer, more sustainable global society.
