Denton's MP appointed shadow health minister

Good news for the region that Andrew Gwynne,Labour MP for Denton and Reddish has been appointed as a shadow health minister in Ed Miliband's team.

Amongst his main duties will be to scrutinise the Tory led Government’s Health Policy, and specifically bring parliamentary pressure to bear on the controversial Health and Social care Bill.

Andrew was previously Shadow Transport Minister with responsibility for
Trains, Buses, Trams, Light Rail, walking and cycling.

Commenting on the appointment he said

“I am very proud to have been asked to take up this position of Shadow Health Minister and am grateful to Ed Miliband for giving me this opportunity.

Clearly health is a hugely important issue and effects many people in their everyday lives. It’s clear to see that the Tory-led government have created confusion and uncertainty with their proposed changes to the NHS and they quickly need to change course.”

“If the government plough on regardless with their changes, they risk causing serious damage to patient care. Through my role as a Shadow Health Minister I will fight this unnecessary and costly reorganisation every step of the way, because I fear these dangerous NHS reforms will unpick the fabric of the NHS and it will never be the same again."
