Chancellor pledges to extend mobile coverage

Amongst the many announcements flying out of government headquarters today is the news that it will invest up to £150 million to improve mobile coverage in the UK.

More details are on the way but the government says that the investment will improve the coverage and quality of mobile services for the 5 to 10 per cent of consumers and businesses that live and work in areas of the UK where existing mobile coverage is poor or non-existent.

The move aims to extend mobile service coverage to 99 per cent of the UK population and the procurement of additional mobile phone mast sites to increase coverage will begin in 2012.
