Rather a strange move by the Lib Dems to attack the Tories over plans to increase VAT.
The party cliams that the Conservatives would be forced to raise VAT to pay for promised tax breaks if they won the General Election.
Launching an election poster which says the increase to 20.5% would cost an average family £389 a year, the Lib Dems claim that Conservative proposals to recognise marriage in the tax system, reduce the impact of the planned National Insurance hike, freeze council tax and raise the inheritance tax threshold will cost £13.5 billion.
As George Eaton writes though in the New Statesman
After the Gene Hunt debacle, Labour supporters must be kicking themselves for not coming up with this one.
