Absurd

It is unfortunate for Labour that the news that the three former Labour MPs accused of fiddling their parliamentary expenses have been awarded publicly-funded legal aid to pay for their defence in their upcoming court cases.

David Cameron was quick to tell his audience in Loughborough, that if he wins the election, that will not be the case

“It is a complete outrage that people who wouldn’t even stand in the dock and answer the charges now expect everyone to pay for their legal defence. A Conservative Government would have a review of legal aid; and there won’t be legal aid available for Members of Parliament who are accused of fiddling their expenses.”

And Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne has released a press release telling the electorate that

It's absurd that well-to-do MPs on double national average earnings and extra expenses to boot should be entitled to legal aid when so many more deserving cases have been refused
.adding

"If these MPs had any shred of decency they wouldn't have applied for legal aid in the first place.
