Judt's call for a new economic model

Have been catching up with Tony Judt's article in the Guardian at the weekend where he makes an impassioned plea for a new politics.

For 30 years we have made a virtue out of the pursuit of material self-interest: indeed, this very pursuit now constitutes whatever remains of our sense of collective purpose. We know what things cost but have no idea what they are worth.

And on the choice at the next election

New Labour – that has governed for the past 13 years and is responsible for the political and financial crisis facing the country; the other – the Conservatives – who are largely to blame for "breaking" the society they now promise to fix. Neither party conveys any sustained understanding of what is wrong with Britain today and both propose remedies which would do little to address the underlying challenges.

Brilliant stuff a must read
