Gordon Brown gave the public a glimpse of private anguish. Mr Brown and his wife Sarah have suffered the worst that can befall a parent. The interview was an insight into personal grief; at times, Mr Brown’s controlled distress made for uncomfortable viewing. But for all the sympathy that the interview will have generated for Mr Brown, it was a mistake.
