Good riddance

Much as I am generally against capital punishment,I can't say that I will be mourning the death of Hassan al Majid, otherwise known as chemical Ali by hanging this afternoon.

Cousin of Saddam Hussein,he was responsible for the monstrous war crimes inflicted on the Iraqi people, notably the brutal Halabja chemical attack that killed around 5,000 Kurds as the Iran-Iraq war drew to a close in 1988.

Considered Saddam's right-hand man, he was a member of the decision-making Revolutionary Command Council and regularly called upon to crush rebellion.

The death sentance was the fourth that he had recieved having already been found guilty of for the 1999 killings of Shia Muslims in the Sadr City district of Baghdad
Dec 2008,for his role in crushing a Shia revolt after the 1991 Gulf War
June 2007 and his role in a military campaign against ethnic Kurds, codenamed Anfal, that lasted from February to August of 1988.
