Mandarins in Whitehall received an urgent SOS from the prime minister’s office recently. Could they possibly come up with ideas to bolster Gordon Brown’s summer policy drive?
The initiative was branded
“Building Britain’s Future”, and came complete with a Union flag logo.and as the article says
After days of leadership coups, resignations and Labour bloodletting, this new policy blueprint has become all the more important. In Mr Brown’s inner circle it is seen as a last throw of the dice.but as Peter says the important point comes at the end of the article
"Some doubt that Mr Brown’s plan will be able to demonstrate anything more than government impotence before the election. 'This is classic Gordon. He thinks of the story first, then tries to work out what the policies should be. It should be the other way round. Gordon has 1,001 small ideas, but no big idea,' said one Whitehall veteran."
