Missed as attention was focused on the new speaker was the sacking of another of Boris Johnson's deputies yesterday,a certain Ian Clement in charge of Government and External Relations.

I'm told that Boris (fresh from his meeting with Morgan Tsvangirai at City Hall) hauled Clement in this morning after he was told of "discrepancies" in his expenses.
The Mayor went ballistic when it emerged that at least two "guests" Clement says he entertained at the London taxpayers' expense were not actually present on the occasions in question.
