Thursday's papers

Day 21 of the Telegraph's revelations may have put the final nail in the political coffin of Julie Kirkbride as the paper reports that she used taxpayers’ money to fund a £50,000 extension to her constituency flat so that her brother could live in the property.

The disclosure comes as pressure builds on Miss Kirkbride to step down after her husband, Andrew Mackay, a Tory MP, announced that he was quitting at the next election amid concerns over his expense claims.

The Times meanwhile focuses on the BNP as it reports that it is facing an inquiry into its funding after its leader, Nick Griffin, paid a £5,000 political donation into his personal bank account without declaring it.

It was a dramatic U-turn by the French, who only hours before had been insisting that they had never planned to invite any members of the Royal Family.
