Bad news for the Tories as well

A very good piece by Steve Richards in the Independent this morning.

Whilst the latest polls show Labour heading for catastrophy next week,it is not the Tories that will benefit.

It is quite possible there will be three headlines after the elections: a wipeout for Labour; a setback for the Conservatives; a boost for the smaller parties.
he writes adding that

For David Cameron this would be very different from the euphorically decisive headlines Tony Blair generated in elections a year before his 1997 victory. I am also picking up anger from fairly prominent Conservatives about what they regard as the arbitrary nature of the political punishments being meted out.
