A change in the world order

There a good piece on the New Statesman's site this morning in which Vincent Bevins explores how the balance of global power may have shifted over the past seven days.

He writes that

the summit was significant in the way it signalled a shift away from US and Western European power.
The balance of economic power in the world has simply changed so much that more countries need to be included.
It’s quite likely the traditional powers of the US, Western Europe, and Japan would have preferred to address this crisis amongst themselves if it was possible. But it wasn’t.

For the first time and with the inclusion of China,Indonesia and Brazil the world summit actually repressented the majority of the world's peoples,over 2/3rds in fact.

But

what was more striking was the boldness these newly included countries showed in confronting the traditional world powers, often quite directly.
