The MEN reports that
By switching off selected lights, the Tory leaders of Bury council believe they would save nearly £250,000.
It has sparked fury from motoring organisations who fear it could lead to more accidents. And police say criminals exploit dark streets to commit crime.
The move is designed to plug the gap in the £4.1m budget.
