Saturday's papers

Lights go out across Britain as the recession hits home in the lead in the Guardian,the paper says that the economic is contracting at its fastest rate since 1980 and that the pound continues to slump against the dollar

The Telegraph goes further saying that some experts believe that the country is on the verge of a depression

Families must brace themselves for a slump of far greater severity and longevity than the recessions of the 1980s and 1990s, the current crisis will be of a scale to rival the biggest peace-time crisis in modern history


The Independent reports that on top of all this doom and gloom ministers are looking at introducing a huge rise in court fees for those forced into bankrupcy.

The Times reports the words of Lord Myers who launched an attack on city bankers calling them greedy and arrogant.

The Mail is on the case of Eighty foreign killers who are exploiting the asylum system to set up home in Britain, The convicted murderers from Albania have been given British passports despite being officially listed as 'wanted' by Interpol says the paper.
