Ian Blair

So now we have entered the era of political appointments when it comes to police officers.

Sir Ian Blair's resignation has not come about because of the Daily Mail but simply because the new mayor has said that he can longer work with him.
For some it will a comeuponce for the commissioner. He had been a political animal,a strong advocate of unlimited detention and ID cards.
He was seen as a strong Blairite and yet fell out with John Reid under his ownership of the Home Office.

The timing may be wrong but perhaps the political side of this should not be the main reason. The Stockwell shootings, claims of racism, comments made during the Soham murder inquiry, bugging the attourney general's phone calls and some distinctly dodgy friends have dogged his time as commissioner.
It may have been better had he gone last year after the Met was found guilty over health and safety breaches over Stockwell.

The writing was on the wall when Boris won back in May and yet Boris now has to show why he felt that Blair was not the man to carry on and what Tory police policy will be.
