One year on and the country cannot wait for him to go on holiday.
Meanwhile David Cameron was getting a lot of critisim for leaving his flood bound constituency to travel to Rwanda, his party split over Grammar Schools and seriously thinking it would lose a snap election.
Andrew Porter reminds us that
At home he had been pilloried for coming to Africa at all while Gordon Brown appeared to single-handedly co-ordinate the flood rescue plans.
Another low point came when even a local hack asked: "Shouldn't you be at home given the flooding?"
He had also just been stuffed in the Ealing by-election and there were mutterings about letters of no-confidence circulating.
Now he stands on the brink of becoming the next PM but surely a warning that a lot couild happen in the next twelve months.Any predictions?
