Tories left with egg on their faces over Lewis

Less than three months into his post and Boris Johnson finds himself in trouble with the resignation of his deputy Ray Lewis.

Already subject to an investigation which seemed to centre around his investment advice for church practioners, the straw that broke the camel's back was his assertion that he was a justice of the peace.

This is undoubtingly embarrassing for both Johnson and the Tory party.Less than 24 hours before, the Mayor had declared his every confidence in his deputy. For David Cameron too, the photo opportunity with Lewis, when he became party leader must seem crass in retrospect.

For Labour this must be a welcome distraction as the rumblings over the John Lewis vote continue.Hazel Blears has been on the attack saying that

left Conservative leader David Cameron and London Mayor Boris Johnson "embroiled in a mess".
.........and adding

"People across the country will note that after just two months, the new Tory administration in London is in complete disarray.
