Abroad Brown has proven himself a formidable leader - what goes wrong when he gets back to Britain?reminding us that once upon a time whilst Blair was derrided for his overseas travels
Apart from required attendance at financial summits, where he excelled, Mr Brown made a virtue of spending as little time overseas as possible. While others tucked into the foie gras and Chablis, he would head straight for the airport and home.
According to Benedict, the reason for the change?
Friends say that Mr Brown has bought a clarity and simplicity to his foreign policy that is woefully lacking from his approach to domestic issues.
Another charactor flaw perhaps,Brown is unable to devote the time to the trivial matters that obsess him at home. And maybe a solution for the PM.
By focusing on a small number of strategic objectives on the domestic front, and delegating the rest, he may restore much-needed clarity and authority to his Government
