Ravaged by John Humphries on Today as the Radio 4 presenter would not let go of the notion that the tax changes were simply a political gimmick related to the forthcoming by election,he finished with a determination that he would stay put.
He acknowleged that he wasnt the only person who could lead the country but that his experience of 11 years stood him in good stead for getting Britain thru the difficult circumstances.
Before that he appeared on Sky news with the same message that the country was best placedto deal with the forthcoming economic problems.
Philip Johnson writing on Three Line Whip says
Who is it that persuades Gordon Brown that the best means of escape from the political hole in which he is firmly stuck is to do another round of radio interviews? The radio is not the kindest medium for a politician who as Chancellor developed an infuriating method for preventing the interviewer getting in a question by rattling off reams of unchallenged statistics. As Prime Minister this technique cannot hold water, yet Mr Brown tries to persist with it.
