Is another climdown on the way?

Not a climbdown. No, no, certainly not. That's the message from the Treasury as Alistair Darling desperately tries to find a way out of the 10p tax row that has split Labour MPs.
But as four more junior members of the Government joined the revolt, a senior Treasury source close to the Chancellor told me: "He recognises there's a problem."
Recognises there's a problem? I bet he does.

The Treasury was last night signalling that it was considering a range of longer-term options to compensate those who might lose out over the tax reform, including using instruments like tax credits and the minimum wage. Angela Eagle, Treasury minister, told BBC radio's Any Questions: "We are listening to people's concerns."
